'Hadrianus (Adrianus) Barlandus (Adriaan van Baarland), Baarland (Zuid-Beveland), 28 september 1486 - Leuven, 15 october 1538. Barlandus got his first training at Gent and studied afterwards in Leuven, where he was ordained as a priest. After a less succesfull year as an academic in Latin he provided in living by teaching young boys from wealthy descent to prepare them for a study at the university. Next to historical studies he was also moved to literary and filological activities'.

The 36 engravings are from P. Galle after Antonio de Succa. This is the first illustrated edition of this chronicle. The first edition was published at Antwerpen in 1526.
