Back ornamented, sides marbled. 'Jacques Necker (1732-1804), financer from Genève and politician in the French service became a banker in Paris. Since1768 he was also diplomat for Genève at the French court. As an opponent of Turgots fysiocratism, he was in 1777 appointed as the successor of Turgot. As a financial director-general Necker got in 1788 the general supervison of the government. In 1789 Necker was fired and this was one of the reasons of the start of the French Revolution. During the Revolution he lost on popularity. Necker was the father of Madame de Stael'. Historische WP. Amsterdam, 1959, 3, 127-28
