Voltaire (François Marie Arouet), 21.11.1694 - 30.5.1778. Voltaire wrote 'La Henriade' when he was incarcerated for ridiculizing the private life of the French emperor Louis XV. The epos about Henry IV was published in 1723 under the title 'Poème de la Ligue' and was attacking religious intolerance and its cruel consequences.
