The edition was prepared by Richard François Philippe Brunck and Friedrich Heinrich Bothe. The full title translates to "Sophocles: Surviving Dramas and Fragments of the Lost Ones, in Greek and Latin". The publication was a significant contribution to the study of Sophocles, as it made both the extant and fragmentary works accessible to scholars in both languages. The edition was published in two volumes. It also includes a conspectus of the meters used by Sophocles and a lexicon of Sophoclean vocabulary, including fragments of lost plays.
